The blog has moved... kind of.
So my TheRRS blog has been tied in with a couple other blogs on tumblr. Its made for a messy, unpleasant experience for me. And I’ll happily use that as a scapegoat for my lack of posting. :) So I hacked it and moved it here:
http://pdxrrs.tumblr.com
it is still on the usual URL- http://therrs.com
that’s all :)

Happy Holidays from Stumptown!
This has been an oddly cool Holiday season for us. This is the first time in fifteen years as a family, that we have spent the holidays virtually alone. As in, no extended family. Both the mister and I have a huge extended family and its not uncommon for us to be among thirty-odd guests during holiday dinners.
With the departure of my sister back to California, that leaves just us up here. The...

The old man (and dog and baby) is (are) snoring
It’s raining it’s pouring… You get it now. The holy trinity (as I’ve come to refer to them) are snoring again. This time it’s raining and I am oddly comforted by the sound of the rain rather than annoyed about being awakened by their snoring. I *DO* have a lot to be annoyed about lately, but I am really trying hard to clear my mind. Very Buddhist. Well, trying. If...

Day 35 (and then some)...
It’s been 35 days since we kicked off summer and, as you might have guessed by the lack of posting, a very busy one.
Back in June we enjoyed a few trips to Periander Park and a hike at Council Crest. The hike was a short one, with much difficulty trying to navigate a stroller through the tight trail. We made a note to head back in July when my mom and her husband were out for a visit.
Mom...

Obnoxious trend, or will they help my run?
Yes. I did. I am sure by the title you know exactly what is coming in this post.
I picked up a pair of Vibram FiveFingers. Why, you may ask? Why the hell not? If these suckers work and relieve my back and leg, the 100 bucks invested is the equivalent of six bottles of extra strength Advil. It’s worth a try.
I first saw the Vibrams on a guy near Pioneer Square back in the summer of 2007. He...

No apes, but lots of snow and birds
Ok, so it’s technically not spelunking from what I can gather by the loose definition. Ape Cave happens to be a landmark frequented by the public and maintained. Spelunking is the exploration of natural caves not publicly maintained. Minor exaggeration aside, we thoroughly enjoyed the expedition to Ape Cave at Mount St Helens this past weekend.
Typical for our family, this was a last minute...

What resolution?
I am genuinely laughing my ass off at this moment. How could I possibly create a New Years resolution when I cannot manage to post to my blog more than once every two and a half months?
Believe me, it’s not for lack of trying. Baby brain has just stuck around a lot longer than normal this time. I promised updates sans baby, so I must deliver.
To do so, I’ll go back and let out some steam re:...

I will have a non-baby related post coming soon -I...
While the euphoria of new-baby slowly starts to wear off and my ability to hear everything else going on around me returns, I have been busy racking up things to post about that are non-baby related.
It may take a while to get a post or two up, but I am dying to tell you about the jackass cashier at Albertsons who insists I am dressed far too warmly for this time of year. No matter what rebuttal...

The sun is out
Aside from having a newborn, we’ve been pretty busy with the sun. It’s been so wonderful having the sun these last few weeks, it’s sort of dictated our days as of late. I’ve abandoned anything needing updating in front of a computer screen (sorry, blog(s) –and thank God for Blackberry mobile Facebook). I’m not much of a mobile blogger. Come to think of it, I’m not much of a blogger at all.

Our little one has arrived -Or- Adventures in...
To start off, one: our little one arrived healthy and safely on June 5, 2010. Just a few days after his due date. He was born at home at 9:33 am, weighing in at 7 pounds, 4 ounces and 20 1/2 inches tall.
And, two: yes, natural childbirth hurts –duh.
Was it manageable and did I survive? Hell yes. Does the pain instantly go away the minute the child pops out? Absolutely. Does it hurt a...

Dreams: Octopus Baby and Adopting Basketball...
Since the age of seven I’ve suffered from bad dreams. Not always the scary “knife-wielding-man, chase-you-down-slasher” dreams, just bad, weird, unsettling types. I’ve had the more typical ones – drowning: check, falling off a bridge/cliff: check, reuniting with dead people: check checkity check.
I think the bad/weird dreams started largely in part due to (or around the same time of) the death...
Siblings, Living Arrangements and Nosey-ass...
It’s a fairly nice Saturday –about a month ago. Jay’s outside presumably working on his bimmer, hanging with the kids. The other neighborhood kiddos are out milling about and a few of the parents. Conversation between Jay and one of the dads turns to our soon-to-be bundle of joy. A neighbor we’re not that friendly with (he keeps his distance and usually minds his business), somehow joins the...

Midterms, sickness, pregnancy and baby (not mine!)...
First, thanks to everyone who responded to my poll, below. I ended up with a ton of personal responses since I had my poll closed and it helped with all of the “research” I needed for the blog post (which is forthcoming).
Enter, Midterms – April 29 at 6 am. And wait, allergies? No, not allergies, full blown sick. Head cold, congestion, the cough that won’t quit. The kind that takes your...

Working on a new post- help me by taking this...
So I am working on a new blog post for the week, and would love your feedback to help!
Thinking back to your childhood, take a look at the poll below and answer as closely as you can. If your situation was totally different, write in your answer.
Keep in mind, I’m thinking formative years- childhood through high school ages. If your situation more closely compares to getting your own room as...

Wow, the countdown has really begun now
We’re getting heavy into the family and pregnancy posts these days… for obvious reasons.
Today was our 32-week prenatal check-in with my very amazing midwife and her team. She was called away Monday for a birth bumping my appointment to today with her associate –another Midwife/N.D. She was equally wonderful and the appointments are SO comforting.
As mentioned in earlier posts, our three boys...

Health Care Reform (oh, really?)
I really don’t care what side of the bill you are on. Health care is not a luxury. if you’re paying premiums that are comparable to a car payment or mortgage-the system is flawed! (that is if you can get health care after cancer!–in that case make it double your mortg) Healthcare is a human right, not a luxury to shop for like a car.
What bothers me is that we have to sit around and wait 5...

March Maddness, Blazers, Birthdays, Band Concerts, Spring Soccer kick off, OH MY!
Trying to find some time to breathe, and change this damn blog. Still not happy with it. Bah! I’ll sum up by saying Screw the Vulcans (ahem, let’s keep Pritchard and not revisit the days of empty stadiums and jailblazers, I like my Miller just fine and Turkeyflu is an ass), Go Kentucky and Gonzaga (my final two...

13 weeks and counting
Finally rocking a respectable baby bump at month 6! We’ve got about 13 weeks to go- provided the little rascal doesn’t make an early debut (my bet is that munchkin number four will be providing me with an excellent birthday surprise at the end of May).
Things are finally picking up speed in the planning department- we’ve decided to stay put in our condo and make renovations determining where...
A long time coming
It’s been a long time coming, this update. The fall took us by storm, with shifts in career, family and long term planning.
I’ve been working freelance since early last year and have slowly tapered off the amount of project work I’ve been taking on in MarCom as I make the shift into a new career, in a completely new and different industry (more on that later!). I have been working on several...

And just like that, it’s over
As quick as summer came upon us, it’s gone. Portland summers are not to be taken for granted. They’re quick, intense, gone. The residual heat, grey skies and occasional down pour are the reminder that Hood is slowly restocking its winter pleasure, and the leaves are rapidly changing on every street.
This week marked FDOS! First Day of School madness definitely hit our family; a small fortune...

Recap of Go Girl Run
The run was good. I managed a respectable hour and twenty 10k. Most of the first
half was
spent leaping over rocks, stumps and wondering if I would have a coronary from the hill. It was all worth it after the first three miles, the last three and change were amazing. The run was good. First run of the year
So excited! Sunday marks the first [official] run for me, since last year’s HTC. I’ll be hitting the trail run (Go Girl Run) in Portland, a 10k. I’m especially excited, because my sister has opted to run with me! We had a great short run around the lake yesterday -just two miles, and she is ready for more. Check out the Go Girl Run here. I’ll be posting pics when the race is over!

Not quite sure what I was thinking
…the day I said I would run a marathon. Particularly THIS marathon. I’ve run distance, love to bike and swim (yes, I’m aware of triathlons, maybe someday), but my fascination with them as of late, not sure. Last year I wanted to run either in the Portland or SF marathon –considering that’s my home city, but with Jay just barely recovering from chemo and radiation, the timing was not right for...

Dentists use propaganda films, too
Ugh. Dentist. Normally I don’t mind going. But this trip brought on bad news…cavity! (Seriously?! after the thrice daily assault on my teeth and gums?). Add to that the very patronizing gaze of my dentist, as he hands me earphones, gets down on my level, and says “…before the hygenist comes in, I want you to watch this video on periodontal disease.” Once more adding a loaded pause to his exit,...
